Bretz Injury Law Hosts Poker Run to Benefit Mothers Against Drunk Driving

WICHITA, Kan., July 17, 2025
WICHITA, Kan., July 17, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Bretz Injury Law is proud to host Ride Like MADD 2025, a benefit poker run, on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 9:30AM, beginning and ending at Twister City Harley-Davidson. This will be the 5th annual Ride Like MADD presented by Bretz Injury Law.
The event will raise awareness about the devastating impact of impaired driving and generate funds to support victim advocacy and to support MADD's prevention efforts across Kansas.
This year we ride in honor of Steven Richard Golik, a beloved husband, father, and motorcyclist who was killed by a drunk driver in the summer of 2024. He sustained critical injuries and passed away a week later. His daughter, Ashley Opliger, has since become a passionate advocate for tougher DUI laws and safer roads in Kansas:
"Every biker should be able to go on a ride and make it home safely. My dad did everything right that day, but someone else's reckless decisions stole his life. If the driver or the passenger who let him drive her car while intoxicated had simply spent $20 on an Uber, my dad would still be alive. That choice would have saved his life—and saved our family from spending the rest of our lives in deep grief, missing him every single day."
The ride will begin and end at Twister City Harley-Davidson (5427 Chuzy Dr., Wichita, KS) and include a scenic 64-mile route—symbolizing one mile for each year of Steven Golik's life. Riders will travel through key parts of south-central Kansas, including Thunder Road, one of Steve's favorite places to ride. Poker run stops include WSU Tech/NCAT, Textron Aviation (where Steve worked for 36.5 years), and Andover Central Park (the city where he lived for over 30 years). Each location reflects a significant part of his life and legacy.
